3. Processing of Personal Data
The Global Mind Monitor processes the personal data of students and professionals from an educational institution for personal development in the field of (inter)cultural competencies. Personal data is collected through a questionnaire. The processing of personal data involves inviting respondents and calculating average scores from which learning objectives can be formulated. Personal data is also stored for future scientific research purposes for scientific and international education.
In the past, different academic researches have been performed using data coming from the Global Mind Monitor. One of the studies concluded that taking part in preparatory activites at home, go thourgh a steeper learning curve regarding intercultural competences (Boonen, Hoefnagels, Pluymaekers & OIdekerken, 2021). Another study conluded that if a student is immersed in an environment that is more ‘culturally distant’ from their own culture, their Cultural Intelligence and Multucultural Personality increased more strongly after a study abroad (Boonen, Hoefnagels & Pluymaekers, 2019). A third study focussed on the compostion of the classroom. They concluded that domestic students that were in a classroom with higher numbers of international students, reported higher levels of motivational Cultural Intelligence (Grosch, Boonen & Hoefnagels, 2023).
4. Purpose
The Global Mind Monitor processes personal data for the following three purposes:
The primary goal of the Global Mind Monitor is to map the (inter)cultural competencies of respondents (this can be both students and teachers). The respondent will see their own score. These scores can also be compared with other respondents at various aggregated levels. It is never possible to trace the scores of other individuals.
To give teachers insight into how their students score and develop in the area of (inter)cultural competencies, an aggregated dashboard is provided in which teachers can only see the scores of their own educational institution.
To support the educational institution in developing their curriculum, it is possible to request an anonymized dataset of only their own educational institution. Teachers of the educational institution can then conduct their own analyses based on this dataset. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences can conduct their own research with the raw and anonymized data from all participating educational institutions for the benefit of science.
5. Legal Basis
The Global Mind Monitor processes personal data based on an agreement. As soon as a respondent starts a questionnaire, they are first asked for consent to share their personal data. There are no consequences for the respondent in case consent is denied.
6. Categories of Personal Data
- First and last name
- Gender
- Email address
- Nationality
- Year of birth
- Completed education and language proficiency
7. Data Transfer
The Global Mind Monitor does not share data with third parties. Personal data is not processed outside the European Economic Area (EEA). We enter into a sub-processor agreement with companies that process your data on our behalf to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data.
8. Automated Decision-Making
There is no automated decision-making within the Global Mind Monitor.
9. Retention Periods
Within the Global Mind Monitor, your data is retained in the database as long as we have an agreement with your educational institution. The duration of a signed agreement is four years. In the case of an expiring agreement, the data will be retained for an additional six months. Previously generated anonymized dataset outputs, as described in section 4, will not be adjusted after the retention period expires.
