Upcoming Sunday, 23 April 2023, the Iranian movie No Bears will be streamed in Lumiere Cinema, Maastricht within the Global Minds at the Movies series. The film portrays the personal position of director Jafar Panahi as a banned film maker in Iran, who (literally and figuratively) has to deal with borders and the contrast between modern cities and rural country sides.
Developing global competence through art movies
Global Minds at the Movies is an initiative of the Global Minds @ Work research centre, joining forces with Lumiere Cinema and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Students and staff from the Hotel Management School Maastricht and the domain International Business and Communication are invited to watch a free art house movie, followed by an after talk by an expert. Movies are a great form to illustrate cultural and intercultural dimensions in human interaction and hence support the development of global competence in an informal setting. The personal reflection by an expert adds an additional layer to the movie as they enrich the experience with personal stories and background information on the context of the movie.
